Hi just wondering what this is at the bottom of my guinea pigs foot. She doesn't seem in pain and gets cleaned out regularly. Is it just dry skin?
Thanks
Are you talking about the heel? Have you tried gently cleaning with warm water and cotton wool to see if it’s something that is simply stuck to the foot. Please don’t pull anything off - a gentle wipe only.
Is the skin broken? Is she old, overweight or immobile? If you have any concerns that she may have broken skin and infection please get her to a vet straight away as Bumblefoot requires veterinary treatment.
Well done for getting it checked out. It’s always a relief when it’s nothing to worry about. I once took one of mine to the vet for a suspected scab on the foot only for the vet to wipe it away with a bit of hibiscrub - it was a dried on bit of poop! One of my rescues (the piggy in my avatar) had the worst feet ever for rough and dry skin. I was always worried that it was the start of bumblefoot but she simply had very rough feet.
