Hi everyone,

My fat furry Absynnian Sugar always seems to have a crust once or twice a day. Been going on at least a month with no sign of injury.

Now it seems higher in volume and I want to make sure it's not indicating something else...but we can't see a vet for 5 days.

No discharge from her nose, but sometimes I can hear some squeaky sounds.

I'm putting some antibiotic eye ointment I had left over from when she had hay poke in January. Vet office said it couldn't hurt.

Is there anything else I can do for now?

Hi!

Please be aware that we cannot comment on the crusts without a picture. Guinea pigs can produce about 4 different eye crusts ranging from the totally harmless to the serious.

The squeaking is unrelately to any eye problem. You may be more aware of it because you are listening very careful and are anxious. Piggies don't usually squeak when they have a sore eye of some sort.

Please do not interfere with the eye any further than what the vet clinic have sanctioned.

I did not know that about different crusts. I will try to get a pic later...it's usually a dried crust in the corner (toward nose, in the fur) much like what a person sometimes has in the morning.

The squeaky sound is from her nose. And I'm definitely listening closer.

Got a photo this morning. Her fur is a little oily from the ointment. Her left eye has this 1-3x a day.

Last night I saw her taking a bath and she had a pool of the white cleaning tears in the corner of that eye. Later on the same spot was dried and crusty.

Hi!
Her tear duct may be a little blocked so cleaning fluid etc. may spill over.
Unfortunately there is nothing you or you vet can do about that particular issue but if you have any concerns, please have the eye vet checked during regular opening hours after the weekend.

I do have her scheduled for Wednesday. One of those things where I feel it's the right thing to do to have it checked since it's been going on for a while and recently increased.
