I have had my little guy to the vet who supposedly works with small animals because his lower eyelid developed a crusty look. They gave him medication for conjunctivitis and said that if that doesn't fix it he made need surgery. It doesn't seem to bother him and after 6 weeks of eye meds,it has gone down, but not disappeared. Anyone know anything that could help me

:wel: To the forum .

it would be really helpful if you could get a photo of your piggies eye so we can see what it looks like

Please try and post a photo. But ultimately you really need to find a more knowledgeable vet. Have a look at the link below.

Thank you. I called all our locals, all booked 6 weeks out and was recommended the vet where I took him. I do not feel that they were really spécialiste in guinea pig care. So this helps.

This is when it was at its worst. Sorry I just figured out how to post a photo.

Hi!

That is not a crust but looks more like a prolapsed tear gland or conjunctiva to me? If it has not completely gone down by the end of the course of medication, please contact your vet again.
It may either need another course or it could be caused by something else.

Yes. The doc said conjunctivitis. Ill check if she will give me another round. Its been a month. It seems to almost go away and then it flares again. Ill read up on prolapsed tear ducts. I also read that most vets when it comes to eyes don't need to be gp specialists. The closest clinic from the list is quite a ride. But if thats what it takes!

Conjunctivitis can in some cases be rather persistent. :(
