Hello Everyone,
My name is Sam. I live in North Carolina, NC. I am a new member on this site. I joined because a situation has come up regarding the health of my guinea pig, and I found out about the guinea pig forum and figured I should join. I am curious if anyone has some tips or advice on how to better assist my guineas pigs needs. In this case, I was recently trimming my guinea pigs' nails when I noticed one of them (Mo) had a rather strange looking scab on his hand. They are very well cared for, and we keep a hygienic living space for my 2 pigs (guinea dad fleece, plenty of water with vit c, plenty of hay supply and organic vegetables, always). I'm wondering if anyone out there has some information about what this is or what I can do. For the picture attached below, the red part on his hand is where a loose part of the scab was coming off, so I went ahead and very gently peeled it off, it seemed Mo wasn't in much pain at all so that was nice, it bled for second and then it stopped. But the yellow crusty scabby stuff in the cracks of his hand seems abnormal, no? I'm wondering how this formed and how I haven't seen it up until now. Mo is a rather hefty boy weighing in at around 1500 grams, should I give him ivermectin? Thanks so much everyone!
Sam

Please always have your piggy seen by a vet if you have any concerns.
Don’t treat on spec with anything including ivermectin - for one ivermectin isn’t the right thing for this issue. Ivermectin is used for parasites and what you are dealing with here is not parasites.

It could be that a foot spur has been pulled off. Removing foot spurs can be painful and cause bleeding so they are best left alone and only dealt with by a vet.
However, as there is now a small open wound, you will need to make sure no infection gets in so you should consult a vet. The rest of his foot looks fine
