On Friday I noticed that one of my guinea pig’s fur on the nose had gone slightly yellow and a little crusty (as can be seen in the first two photos).

His breathing sounded just fine and his eyes showed no signs of cloudiness, discharge, watering etc, he has been eating and behaving as normal and hasn’t lost any weight and so I decided to just keep an eye on this to see whether it got any worse, as I’m suspecting it may be the early signs of ringworm (which he has been treated for and I previously posted about!) as I’m still keeping an eye on him to see whether it comes back, which hopefully it shouldn’t as we followed every step of the ringworm guide as though it was a military operation! 😂
Yesterday the skin had formed a red sore and the fur seemed to be hanging off a little (further increasing my suspicion of ringworm) but I wasn’t able to get a clear enough picture as he wasn’t feeling particularly photogenic, but today the sore seems to be a lot less open and a lot less red and the fur seems to be back in place (which can be seen in the last two photos).

Both of the boys have been rumble strutting and trying to mount each other a lot over the last week or so (they’re still in their hormonal phase and so still squabbling for dominance I suspect!) and so could this be down to a bit of a tiff or is it the dreaded ringworm once again?!

I’ve booked a vet appointment for this coming Wednesday as that was the earliest they had available, but I’m hoping that it will clear up in the next few days and I was hoping to get some thoughts on what it may be from some people who may have some more experience with this kind of thing than I do!

Thank you!

Hi!

Hopefully it has just been some boar glue stuck to the skin that has come off and is now healing. It doesn't show any of the scaly, powdery fungal exudate which you would associate with a ringworm/fungal infection. Just keep an eye on it for now.

It looks like this! Boar glue 🤢 His nose became a little bald and sore the more he tried to wash his nose, hope it’s not ringworm48A868EF-F7E8-48F1-9427-027E251EFFC7.jpeg
