Hi all, it is me again. I'm sure you're tired of seeing my posts but I have no exotic vet and have many questions daily lol.
SO, Chuck is getting Critical care. He gets at least 100ml a day which is 3tbs of CC. I am exhausted from constant meds with both my boys and juggling life. So, I don't get to doing critical care until around 9-10pm, they get their veggies at 12am.

I've noticed after he gets his CC he seems a bit bloated and quiet. He also doesn't eat as much of his veg if he does get the CC. I only know this cause I stopped for 2 days to see if his weight dropped or not, and it did so hes back on it. I'm wondering, would the CC be filling him so much he doesn't eat as much veg? Also, can it cause bloat?
Should I try and space it out to do CC twice a day so he takes in less at one go? It'd be more stress for me but if that is what will help him and make him more comfy, then I'm willing.

Thanks everyone !

Oh bless you - it is hard work looking after sick animals. You have all our support.

So to clarify, he is getting 100ml of critical care in one go?
100ml what they would eat in a 24 hour period - with several feedings throughout the day so my guess would be it is just too much in one go.

Yep. In one go. He has meds 3x a day, Emeprid 3x, Metacam 2x. So I do CC later and it is all in one go, usually works out taking an hour or so and he gets breaks to eat some veg and get a snug.
It is genuinely hard to find the time of day to get as much CC into him as I have to.

I thought it may be too much in one go, which explains why he is probably so full and not himself. Poor guy, mommas tryna help him and I'm just gonna make him pop lol. I'll get 50ml into him tonight then start doing it tomorrow atleast 2 times a day.
Thanks for your response!

As said above 100ml of would be around a guinea pigs full calorie intake in a day, I imagine having all of that in one go would be the quite taxing on the wee guy.

It can be hard to know what to do and there is always so many questions that come with owning animals, especially when an animal is ill, so never apologise for asking questions.

Is your boy eating hay? If he is not 100% but is eating hay then you could be aiming at around 40-50ml to help keep the gut going but that can/will vary between each pig and how they weigh every morning.
Are you doing daily weight checks?

Wishing you and your boy all the best x

He's eating lots of hay! He was put on CC because of rapidly losing weight. His bowel has seemed to chill out a bit and his poos are solid for the most part, still super small. I'm doing weight checks every two days. I'll cut down on the CC feeding a bit which will be a relief to both me and him cause he hates the taste haha. Thank you for your response ❤️
He also eats his veggies, again its just the weight loss. He was 600g at one point. Now he's at 1kg, on the two days I skipped CC he dropped to 980g.
