When Cream arrived at TEAS, in April 2021, his future looked very bleak. He was unable to eat and despite being put under anaesthetic by his previous vet, who had also taken X-rays, his mouth and teeth were considered normal and the recommendation was to put him to sleep. His loving owner felt sure it was a dental problem, as he wanted to eat, but couldn’t, so made the very difficult but brave decision, to surrender Cream to us.
He was immediately booked in to see our amazing vet, Simon Maddock, who discovered a very nasty spike, from a tooth, cutting into the soft tissue at the back of Cream’s mouth. No wonder the little guy couldn’t eat. His mouth was ulcerated and bleeding. As soon as his teeth were filed, Cream was able to eat straight away! Although he needs a quick tidy up of his teeth, from time to time, Cream is now living his best life, with his buddy Ivan!
However, this lifesaving treatment is now under threat! How can it possibly be deemed unethical and ineffective? More than two years after being destined for euthanasia, Cream is happy, thriving and enjoying his excellent adventure!
None of our guinea pigs need supportive care, syringe feeding or are in any way being kept alive, as long as they get the quick and effective conscious dental they need!
