Hi, well during our search for our new family members I've come to realise that our indoor cage (to be used for winter) would probably be a bit small (its the 1m long type with plastic top) so I was looking into a C&C cage when hubby made a suggestion - use our old cot! The baby is in a bed now so her cot is sitting unused, sooo, I'm thinking it may be just the thing for a couple of pigs for the winter months given that its off the floor so the baby cant go stumbling/charging into it, its sturdy and I'm thinking it would just need some coroplast to cover the bottom and sides and it has a convenient drop side so older kids wouldnt struggle to reach in to play with the pigs but it can be highered so the baby cant reach in and bother them..does this sound too nuts or would it work?

Hello :-) I'm new here but feel qualified to answer this question as an owner of little people and little piggies, Id say in theory it could work BUT it would depend on the gaps between the bars on the cot, I say this because we own a babydan play den (large hexagonal playpen with bars like a cot) and the piggies can pass through the bars with ease when out for a run of an eve. I havent tried to put the pigs throgh my babies cot bars but I would reken they could slip through that also.

hey..
sounds like a gread idea as long os you modify it slightly...

i'd look in to ways of lining th sides up "so far" so you have no escapees...

sorry though... ive got no ideas of how to do it ...
lmao...
:)
good luck
x

I think that sounds like a great idea! :)

You could mabe use panels like these so your pigs can't escape?

Or maybe make 'walls' out of correx. I guess both could be cable tied to the bars of the cot?[/QUOTE

Thanks for the replys guys, we thought if we put the correx up as high as I've see some of the c&c cages on here, the put the playpen bars (as the link shows in above post) then they wouldnt be able to squeeze their way throught the cot bars. I dont think they could anyway because the gap between them is only two fingers wide (and I have small hands!)but just to be sure we could attach the playpen things and have them so we can take them on and off so the piggies can get floor play indoors on icky days when they cant be out in the garden run.

Ive got the playpen thingie already, and the cot, found a local sign makes that will give me the correx (hubby done some website work for them so I can get a freebie in return yay!), Ive got my hutch and my run, got a cute fleecey hidey tube and other bits that daughters made and the kids have even got a list of names.....only thing we havent got is PIGGIES8...

I think it would work if the correx was high enough, my piggy corner at the moment is the babyden playpen, I cornered the wall off with it then weaved cardboard in and out of the holes so they cant escape so correx would be even better x
