Hello! My piggie aged 5-6 has got this crackly sound when she breathes. We've been on holiday and i volunteer at the boarding place they stayed at. It's unlikely for them to get sick here but I'm worried about my piggie. Just wondering on any advice? It only started today (two days after picking them up) so i don't know if it's caused by her being a bit old or what. I cant attach a video of the sound as its not letting me ?

Please see a vet for crackly breathing (noisy from the chest). It’s always something which needs to be checked by a vet

You need to upload any video to YouTube first and then post a link to it here - we can’t host video directly on the forum.

Definitely sounds like a vet check is in order. Crackly breathing could mean an infection, or something else entirely.
Good luck! 😊

EDIT:
@Piggies&buns you beat me to it! 😁

It's going to be something, not nothing, and her friend knows she needs a bit of tlc. A vet visit as soon as you can is in order and hopefully she'll be able to be treated quickly and simply. Even if she sounds a bit better tomorrow still take her. She's an older girl and they can go down very quickly. Don't wonder too much about the boarding place - I've had little groups of pigs and the older ones have come down with a chesty issue but the younger ones never showed any sign of anything. Age makes them susceptible x

It really does! They're both the same age and the pig who groomed her is not very nice towards her in general so i was in awe when it happened. Definitely will try to get her booked in asap. Thank you for your help.

Her breathing has stopped completely being crackly (she is still breathing) I don't know if that means it's stopped or what? I'll check her later once in back from work

Nasal noises tend to be due to dust (hay dust or bedding for example) in the airways. Piggies have narrow airways so anything in the system will cause a noise. These are usually dealt with by piggy sneezing the obstruction out. Any crackling, wheezing or noises from the chest are of concern and should be checked by a vet, but always best to err on the side of caution when it comes to breathing.
Keep an eye on her, keep up with the routine weight check and see a vet if you are concerned.
