Does anyone know what this means? He was just completely fine and out of nowhere started making a kind of crackly noise.

does he still have his ability to wheek? My girl lost her voice (can no longer wheek) a year or so ago and can only make a crackling noise.

Yes he still wheeks fine and seems completely fine but he was eating hay then gagged/coughed then I heard the cackling noise.

If you have a video with the sound, you will have to upload it to a third party website such as youtube and then attach the link here.

Is the sound still happening or did it only happen that one time? Sometimes piggy’s can gag/cough on food is they eat too fast and they are more often than not able to clear it up themselves.
If it is ongoing it would be recommended you get your piggy into the vet as you may be dealing with a URI, which can be fatal if not diagnosed and treated. There are other situations where you may hear a crackling sound but these should/will clear up within hours to a day or two at most.

You can help try to alleviate these symptoms by placing a bowl of boiling water near your pigs cage, but please be aware that this will not help/change anything if your piggy was/is dealing with a URI.

It just happened that one time then he stopped then he started again then stopped and I haven’t heard it since yesterday. He seems to eat fast sometimes ever since I first got him he was gagging sometimes on veggies.

Was the crackling in time with him breathing? Just like us they can get debris caught in their throat and might sneeze or cough to dislodge it, it can sometimes cause them to make a funny noise for a minute or so but shouldn’t last long. If it is occurring regularly or for a prolonged length of time then he should definitely see a vet.

I’d keep an eye on him and take him to the vets if it keeps happening and you are worried. Is his weight stable?

I haven’t weighed him yet since I’ve had him for about a week so far but he is eating a drinking well.

It was in time with him breathing and then went away but I haven’t heard it again so I will just keep an eye on him.

Make sure you do weigh him this week, getting a baseline from early on is important

Yes keep an eye on him. It may just be that he was eating too fast but otherwise any breathing issue concerning crackling/wheezing coming from the chest (rather than from the nose which is usually a dust obstruction) does need to be checked out by a vet

I wanted to drop an update. But as of just 3-4 days ago…she has started wheeking continuously. After only mumbling since this topic! Her voice has been restored somehow and she’s shouting to the heavens about it lol
