My guinea pig has a crackling sound when she breathes so we contacted a vet and the earliest they can get us in is Monday at 5pm. I feel so bad cause I'm not sure if thats too far out for her to make it cause the emergency list time thing on here says for breathing problems today asap, i contacted the closest emergency vet and they have a surgery going on so they cant take any appointments right now and i dont know what to do. Will she be alright waiting 2 days?

Hi and welcome

Is your girl still eating and drinking? If yes, then the breathing has not detoriated so much that the need to breathe is taking priority before drinking and only thirdly eating. What you are likely hearing is some crackly/raspy breathing in or into
the bronchia and a respiratory infection. With a little luck she will keep until Monday on this level. Ideally crackly or raspy breathing should be seen within a day or latest two if possible.

Please switch to monitoring the weight with your kitchen scales first thing in the morning so you can step in with syringe feeding and watering promptly if (and only if) needed.
Our syringe feeding guide contains all the details from weight monitoring, and how to compute any necessary support to the correct level as well as improvising and feeding tips for an emergency.

If your girl has lost her appetite altogther, has a clicking lung or laboured breathing and is becoming apathetic, then you are looking at an out of hour emergency over weekends or evenings. The sooner she gets an antibiotic with potential pneumonia, the better.
In this case, round the clock feeding care is crucial, even if it is a battle.
Emergency and Crisis Care as well as Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

Please be aware that you cannot monitor the hay intake by eye (it makes over three quarters of what a piggy is eating in a day). For that you need some kitchen scales; cheap ones from a supermarket are perfectly OK for weigh monitoring at home. Respiratory sounds can be rather alarming but whether your piggy is still eating normally, less or not at all is in some ways a better guideline as to whether you are dealing with an emergency or not.

I hope that this helps you? All the best. Weekend illnesses can unfortunately really panic you.

She is still eating and drinking fine, when I first noticed it she was drinking water so I thought maybe it was just her breathing while trying to drink. Then when we were calling the vet I gave her some veggies to make her calm down a bit and she gobbled them right down, other than her weird breathing she perfectly normal.

Hi

As long as she is still eating and drinking normally and holding her weight, she is not an emergency. Please take a deep breath and just monitor.

Hey, so as of Saturday night she's not making the sound anymore and I waited a few days cause i wanted to make sure she stopped but everything is fine now I don't know what happened should I still take her to the vet? I'm still planning on it but is it necessary anymore? She's still eating and drinking like usual, my friend who doesn't have guinea pigs said "it probably had a cold" but I know that's not how it works lol.

I would recommend that you have her checked through, if just for your own peace of mind.

What we cannot tell you is of course whether symptoms may return or not but a vet can give you assurance that the lung and airways are clear.

But it must be such a relief to you!
