Hi all,

My 2 year old pig has been having occasional crackly breathing for the past 2 weeks, it almost sounds like teeth gnashing but it's very clearly coming from her nose. It gets very noticeable when you pick her up, it almost sounds like she's panicking, but once she's settled in my arms it goes pretty much quiet. She has no other symptoms, clear eyes, completely clean, even teeth, hasn't changed weight at all (and is still as food-obsessed as ever!), and full of energy.

I went to the vet once I noticed and they gave me a full course of Baytril "just in case". No change whatsoever. I remember giving her some for a URI late last year and there was a very big difference in how she was feeling and she was a lot more willing to accept the medication then. I've completed the course now and the vet (unfortunately not a specialist, the nearest specialist lives 2 hours away and I was worried the journey would make her worse) has said to just monitor her but it "clearly won't kill her".

When I adopted her mid last year, the rescuer mentioned she had a URI this exact time last year. This has made me wonder if she just has hayfever? I don't know what my next steps are, I'd be willing to go to the specialist but they aren't free till late next week.

I'll also add that they have fleece bedding and have had the same hay (orchard) this whole time, and they live indoors. Their room has almost constant access to outdoor air through a window and she seems to be worse if she's been outside in the run. The only difference I can think of is I've changed their cage cleaner to Out! Petcare natural hutch & cage cleaner. Her companion is completely fine as well.

Is their hay particularly dusty or are there any other possible irritants in their room?
