Hello everyone.

My my Renton has always been prone to hooting intermittently (especially when hay box is opened) but this morning he’s crackling and sort of grunting - we are in the queue for the vets on the phone, (wish us luck it can be worse than the Drs trying to get an appointment) but I’m guessing he has a URI? He clearly needs seeing by a vet, can anyone advise what sort of treatment he might need. They’re insured so I’m not worried about cost, just the practicalities, never had a sick pig before.
Any thoughts gratefully received, we are keeping him warm and giving their usual low calcium veg. Cage mate Spud seems fine.
😕

Emily.

I hope you got an appointment. Fingers crossed Renton is on the mend soon.

Best of luck at the vet, Bisolvon decongestant is a good medicine to get the vet to prescribe for routine wheezy piggy symptom relief, once any infection has been either treated or ruled out.
Raspy honky Blodwen and occasionally gently hooting Lavender both have bisolvon prescriptions, for use when needed- it really helps ease occasional noisy breathing in piggies prone to that sort of thing :)

Update-The vet thinks it’s ‘ore likely an allergy to hay than a URI but to try some anti-inflammatory medicine and damp the
Hey with a water before feeding, also recommended a few other tips like moving them away from the radiator. There is no wheezing today but he also refuses to take the medicine so that is another drama.

Quick update for anyone interested :).
We followed vets advice abs bought a stand for the cage, moved them away from the radiator and sometimes damp their hay. Touch wood; no wheeze. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
