Hi all,

I just have a couple of questions, we are looking to get some piggies in the next couple of months so starting to do my research now. Firstly I was planning on having them outside during the warmer months and bringing them in for winter, is this ok to do and generally what months would they be ok outside and what months inside?

Also is there any sort of rough calculation for hutch and cage sizes per pig?

Thanks in advance :)

Personally, id find it too much of a hassle to have them out and then in, and would say, if you have the space inside why not keep them there all year round ? as i've found having an outdoor hutch inside isn't very practical, I'm fostering two in one at the minuet and they don't have high sides like an indoor cage so sawdust falls everywhere when they move, also by having guinea pigs indoor, they got alot more social and used to human contact not saying that outdoor pigs don't but they get alot more involved in everyday family life, 2 of my pigs run to the side of there cage when i walk in the room now which always makes me happy!

Alot of people do bring there pigs in for colder months etc though and theres no definite time as the weathers always changing, some people saying outside in about march and inside in october, november ish, but obviously sometimes it's colder than others, some guinea pigs are used to being outdoors the older pigs, some from rescues that have been outside there whole life and things, so you could keep them outdoor all year round also, but as it gets cold you would need to look into hutch covers/insulation for that.

that link will tell you minimum size requirements for piggies :)

hope that helps.
