Hi Sazzy sorry no one has replied before I guess people just aren't around this afternoon, I'm sure you'll get more replies tonight.

Despite having boys for over 10 years I have never come across "penis plugs". Boys can, and often do, get bits of hay and bedding stuck up their boy bits, particularly if they are prone to dragging their bottoms along the floor - mine usually do this to mark everything when i've cleaned them out - charming!

You can generally ease out any bits by gently washing the area, sometimes you can slowly pull out the hay - they generally don't like having this done, so take it very slowly. Sometimes you will find semen stuck to a boar (if you've got 2 boys they are often keen to share it around ?). This sets solid once it's dry and you usually have to trim it off any fur, but it's usually pretty clear in colour. Maybe this is what you are seeing?

Boys can also get impaction which is when their anal sack fills up with poops that they can't pass. As boars get older the muscles can get a little weak and hence the build up. If you see a "bulge" at your piggies back end you can get a cotton bud and baby oil and gently work the ball of muck out - not a pleasant job and very smelly, but once you start to do it you generally have to continue, checking your boar daily.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

Never heard of the first question and a number of reasons can cause weight loss. :)

When boars mate with a sow they plug the vagina with a white wax plug to make sure no other boar impregnates the sow as well. However,I have never heard of a boar having a blocked penis.

There are several easons for weight loss.

If the weight loss is sudden it is most likely a dental/mouth or throat problem.

Slow weight loss can be caused by renal problems i..e. diabetis, chronic renal failure, liver failure.

Mites can also cause weight loss.

Elderly gps over 5.6 years often slowly lose a bit of weight.

I had also heard this but I am unsure what is meant by penis plugs, sazzy11.

Sometimes I have found that my boars can have a messy tip to their penis which you can gently wash and clean. I notice that particularly in my older boars which need help with their bottoms because of impacted anus and when I gently squeeze their bottom, sometimes their penis can "pop out".

Apart from those two comments, I am unsure what about penis plugs.

Weight loss is another issue and can be caused by alot of different reasons ... are there any other symptoms? Is your piggy off their food? Drinking alot?
