Hi does anyone on here use fleece as bedding in their outside hutches or sheds.
The reason I ask is because everytime I clean the outside piggies out the woodshaving shred my arms and I'm itching and sore for days.
I use fleece in the inside hutches but wondered if they'd be ok for the outside ones?
The runs attatched to the hutches have fleece on the floor but I want to make sure it'll be ok for the hutches before I do it tomorrow.
Will it keep them warm enough if it's doubled over with puppy pads underneath or would they be better if I kept them on newspaper and woodshavings?

I keep my boys on vetbed in the boys hutch in the shed, i use cosies and cuddle tunnels for extra warmth, sometimes if its very chilly i top up their hay tray and put a fleece blanket down for them to snuggle into :) It works very well for me, and i find is alot cheaper too!

When i go to feed Harey and Artie on the mornings the vet bed is really warm where they've been sitting.

Aww thanks, The fleece I use is quite thick but I always double it over for extra warmth.
I have a big double hutch which has 3 room upstairs and a huuuuuuuge room downstairs.
They have an insulated box with a little dog bed full of hay in the bedroom, the food room in the middle room with a tunnel and then the third room is a hay room.
Downstairs they have food in one corner a veg tray opposite and then a tunnel and a toy and then a big insulated box with a little dog bed full of hay.
I think it's warm enough but I just wanted to check that fleece would keep then as warm as woodshavings.
One of my pigs doesn't really like woodshaving anyway, well I don't think she does as she kinda moves it away from her sleeping bit.

Awww that sound so cosy, the hutch sounds like a palace too! The boys have a carboard box which i stappled on bubble wrap 5cm up to the inside and the stapled fabric over the top (to stop them chewing it) and fill it full of hay during the coldest weeks which works nicely! I use woodshavings for their toilet area, and i upturned the small dog bed so it worked as a hidey :)

Anyway the vetbed has kept my boys warm, and the fleece should do the same.:)

Yeah you could use it, just keep an eye on it and be careful it doesn't get too damp.

If they have hay to sleep in too then they should be nice and cosy :)

they will have abox & bed area with a mini dog bed with hay in it then a food area with just fleece they a hay room.
on the next level down they have a big space with hay play tunnels, toys etc and then a b0x & bed area with a mini dog bed with hay in it.

I've tried vet bed in hutches in my shed and found that it got really damp and smelly. I dont know why ? I know people do use it outside but I just couldn't get along with it at all - I used thick newspaper under it as well but found that I was changing the vet bed every day (sometimes twice a day)and it still ponged horrible :(

I use it indoors for poorly pigs etc and it dosen't seem to smell at all................:{
