When my boys eat their lettuce really fast, they sound like they are coughing too. I have 3 boys and they all make that coughing sound.

My Finn is 6 years old now, and he has made that sound since he was a little baby. I was very concerned when I first got him and he made that sound, but he is now an old man.

Piggies have narrow airways so any irritant can cause a sound. If a nasal irritation (often caused by hay dust), can be cleared with a cough or sneeze or if they are eating too fast and causing themselves to cough then that tends to be less concerning.
Any crackling or noisy breathing coming from the chest is concerning.
You should always see a vet if you are concerned - we obviously cannot diagnose what is happening in your specific case.

Hi and welcome

If it is a one off coughing episode then it is likely that something has gone down the wrong way.
Some piggies can also eat too greedily and cough in the wake of a meal. That is nothing to worry about.

Please see a vet if the coughing persists for more than a few hours or if your piggy struggles to bring something up again.
