Hey

Gathering all our bits together for (hopefully) arrival of piggies and wondering what to line hutch with?
What’s your preference? If correx is it 2mm I should be looking for?

Thanks x

Hopefully everything goes as planned with the arrival of the piggies ☺️ The plastic sheet/cortex I use is only 2mm and it does the job, however it is not very sturdy you may want slightly thicker to allow the sides of the cortex base to stand better. Although the sides would be supported by the grids. So there isn't a huge necessity to have thick base. I hope this is some help to you :)

Thanks so much for your reply.
The hutch will be outside, will, that matter? I’m so new to this and scared to buy the wrong thing!

Also scared they’d nibble it?

Also will they nibble the sides? Worried it would harm them x

I'm slightly confused what your intention is, will you be using a hutch? Or in a shed? What are your plans? Are you intending on using fleece bedding? A c&c cage? I have not had any issues with coroplast being chewed as the sides of my fleece fold over them and so can not be reached by the pigs. I would've thought if there is enough enrichment in their cage then they should feel the need to chew on the plastic but every piggy is different 😊

@Camisla Is there a reason why you would want to line the hutch with correx or lino? They're usually used as a base for a C&C cage to give them structure.

It has been many many years since I had a hutch but I did line it with some wipe clean sticky back plastic on the bottom so it kept any leakages of urine from soaking into the wood and rotting it

Sorry I do apologise I read your message wrong, I would see any need to use coroplast for a hutch, potentially as Jaycey suggested, just wipe clean sticky surface 😊

i have lined all my hutches with lino! stops urine seeping into the wood floors, much easier for cleaning.i use fleece in the spring and autumn months.i used lino sqaures from b and m stores. mine have not nibbled the lino due to it been completely covered with bedding or fleece.i find vet bed with puppypads under the vet bed,as it does not remain damp like fleece can in the colder months.it is an exciting time for you.

Ah thank you lovely.
I spoke with the Guineas pig rescue lady today and she suggested lining hutch with limo or correx... hence my q but I’m learning all the time! ☺😂 just want everything to be perfect for them arriving. I’m going with the kids to get play things / toys so they can choose them so not planning on putting them into an empty hutch.
I did a search earlier on correx and someone had said their piggies were nibbling it hence the q on nibbling, worrying myself somemore! I have successfully raised two kids thus far 😂
