Would people advise 2mm or 4mm correx?
from the tea crate people i can get huge black sheets, but they are only 2mm thick, but if i want thicker (4mm) i need to go elsewhere, but then they are smaller and need to be taped together.
decisions, decisions.
Advice please
B

p.s. harry is a nibbler. the reason for moving to correx, is our grids are presently on a thick pcv shower curtain, and he thinks this is tasty!mallethead

Could you not just stick the 2 Teacrate ones together to make a 4mm?

I got the Correx from them for my hay tray and it was ginormous but is quite flimsy feeling, but then I suppose how sturdy does it need to be.

Sorry I'm being no help at all am I :))

So unhelpful I posted it twice!

sorry i cant help either but i have heard 4 should be min for cages, i like the idea of sticking together though elle as when i was looking for correx that could be delivered i could only find 2mm in reasonable size.

I have 2mm and no problems, I would just do what Elle suggests and stick it together.....

I didn't even know you could get 4mm, but I think I'll stick with teacrating, you can't complain at the price!

I got 3 sheets of 2mm 8ft x 4ft from Travis Perkins at under £5 a sheet. I don't live far so they delivered for free. :(|)

I used double thickness for the bottom tray. I just laid two sheets together and folded the sides up in the right places, plenty of gaffer tape on the corners and edges. It's absolutely fine once in place.
I was also pleased I that I had only got the cheap stuff as I made quite a few mistakes and alterations as I went along (first time effort, limited space and poor brain power). I'd have been gutted to have paid the £30 for one sheet of 6mm I was quoted by the local sign shop and then bodged it.
If I have to re-do the cage again at some point, then I might invest in a thicker piece (now that I know what I'm doing).

Good luck. :)

Thanks boozyfruits for posting this - i have just ordered more correx from the tea crate - they are MUCH cheaper than the last supplier i ordered from!:)

OOops - i forgot to say - my correx is 2mm and it seems ok so far - although i did cut my finger on it whilst trimming it so taped all the edges with duct tape so that the pigglies won't get hurt!

Simply for the price (and you get a discount too for buying it for piggies!) I'm perfectly happy with 2mm. The cage walls hold the correx in shape well anyway.

Initial reaction on seeing the 2mm was it was very flimsy, but it actually does the job just fine.

thanks that is really helpful. hubby is always keen to pick up the trays and take them outside to clean, but i am sure i can reinforce if necessary.;)

Any suggestions to stop nibblers?mallethead

You know the plastic triangle-shape page binder things, that you slide onto the edge of a bundle of paper to hold them together? Try them - I've heard of them being used before 'though not tried them myself.

The front walls of all my cages have a totally unique "wave" effect. One front wall has even mysteriously vanished. And the cages were ony made up a few weeks ago. :))

maybe it is a piggy art form, and they are expressing themselves :)) so you could argue we ought to let get on with it.

Harry's plastic munching never seems to do him any harm. He poos for Britain anyway, after a gut infection as a baby.
i might order a few sheets, and see how long the first one lasts before considering the edge protectors.
