I am in the process of putting together a 2x5 c&c cage, but I'm totally new to guinea pigs and their housing requirements. How thick should the coroplast be on the base of a c&c cage? Is there a concern that guineas could chew on it if it's too thin? I was initially planning to order a 48 x 96 x 0.157" sheet (through Home Depot) because I thought that was the only thickness option, before I realized that they came in sheets thicker than that.

Also, if that is the standard thickness, would I be able to roll a sheet of this size up so that I could reasonably carry it without damaging it? I use public transportation to get everywhere in my city and don't have the option of throwing a giant sheet of plastic in the back of my car.

Thanks in advance!

The thicker the better but it doesn’t hugely matter. I have a 4mm thick piece which by conversion looks to be 0.157 inches. It’s fairly rigid and I don’t think you’d get to roll up without damaging it. We can get a 2mm thick piece here as well and that is fine.

I also have 4mm and it definitely wouldn't roll up.
One of the reasons it is so hard to get correx here is it is impossible to post 4mm due to not being able to roll it!
Do Home Depot offer a delivery option?

They do, but unfortunately that ends up more than tripling the price :/ I'm thinking that I may have to cut the sheet in half in the store and then just deal with constructing the base with two seperate pieces

When mine was sent in the post it was loosely rolled up...if you cut it you’d have to make sure you measure correctly before cutting. So that it just fits in with no gaps.

I had some 4mm then when I had a change around I bought some 2mm from Wickes and I found it much easier to use but just as good as the 4mm. It is easier to roll albeit a big roll! Mine chewed both the 4mm and the 2mm so I don’t think it makes any difference. I stopped them chewing it by sliding document binders along any edge they could get to, and that’s worked really well.

I've no idea what I bought but it came in big sheets which I cut to size & used the spare for the main floor. They nibbled it at first but lost interest as it really doesnt taste very good, or so my pigs tell me 😉 x

Well it turns out 2mm isn't even offered in my area, whoops :/ I've watched a few videos and I'm feeling much more confident about making it work with a full sheet cut down the middle. Two 4x4 pieces should be perfectly manageable to get home on public transport. Thanks for all your answers!
