I saw someones cage photos online and it got me to wondering can you you use coroplast by itself if you raise the sides higher and sturdy the edges? i have grids but not enough to make the size cage id like and I'm getting two 4by8 foot sheets of coroplast soon (they come in packs of two at the sign shop if in sheets) i would like to make a 2by6 cage with a 2by2 kitchen area with 12 in sides and open top i have 13 grids and finding them isnt very easy so i was wondering if i could sturdy the bottom more and use the grids to hold up the second level like on a stand of grids to hold it up and go around it? this is my first c&c that I'm building myself ive had a 2by4 before but it came with guinea pigs i adopted. but i would like to make sure this would be safe before i get my piggies. i have enough panels for a 2by4 but if i can get more space then id love to they are certainly happier with the most space.

Piggypigpigs on youtube/facebook made her 2 current cages from just coroplast. I think she used the 10mm stuff, so they are very sturdy and don't need extra support.

I use 5mm correx for a correx only cage, it is now a few months old and is totally fine :D I have even modded it by making it a bit smaller so it fits on top of my other cages :D

thanks for the help and the videos! i was just told it would flex and eventually piggies would be able to get out but then i saw someone else with the cage and got to wondering and with the top level needing grids to hold it up it would help with some support and removable completely for easy clean! cant wait to get the piggies though i can find any shelters or rescues in my area :( ill just have to go with the petstore i suppose but they need loving homes just as much.

I have used the correx/chorplast/whatever on its own and in my opinion it's so much easier to clean. My only problem is I don't have anything to hold my fleece down so the piggies burrow but yes apart from that its pretty good :D

what i was planning on doing to keep them from burrowing is use binder clips (at least thats what i call them lol) to clip the fleece onto the coro. that should keep it in place and keep guinea pigs from burrowing
