Hi everyone,

I've noticed that my guinea pigs have one corner of their cage that they prefer to poo and wee in, which is handy because it means I can just scoop out the corner every couple of days rather than the whole cage. So I was wondering whether anyone has one of these http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/care_grooming/toilet/13266 and whether there's much point to them. Is it easier to clean them out than to clean out a corner of the cage?

Thanks in advance,
Juli :)

Wow, lucky you! Mine go wherever they feel like it! :))

I use basic plastic dog beds and big rabbit litter trays filled with hay, which means they do most of their business in the plastic tray while they're eating.

I find it slightly easier to use litter trays than cleaning the soggy corners because it means you don't have to replace the cage bedding as often. I line the litter tray with newspaper so you just have to roll up the hay/wee/poop leftovers in the newspaper, bin it and replace it. Then I just give the trays a wipe when i clean out the cage. Overall, I wouldn't say they're necessary but I find that litter trays save a little bit of time, and make things a little easier :)

HTH!

Hi,
We've got one of those and yes it's great. The girls do occasionally we in other places (like on me when they're having a cuddle {:| ) but on the whole they wee in here and every day or so I just chuck the wet newspaper or puppy pad out. I use cut up puppy pads as I find it doesn't smell and I change it every other day, newspapers needs changing everyday
