We've just had a corn fly (thrip) infestation and by the time we realised, we had what looks like hundreds of corn flies fly directly into the guinea pig room. Does this pose a threat to guinea pig health?

I’m afraid I really don’t know. Do they bite? Could you move the piggies out temporarily while you deal with the infestation? I suppose the key thing to be aware of would be potential for fly strike?

These arent actually flies and feed only on plants. They may "bite" a human wearing plant coloured clothing but this is just trying their luck- they cannot suck blood or feed on animals and wont cause flystrike.
Annoying but harmless- they cannot thrive or reproduce indoors except having a go at your fruit bowl or salad drawer, I suggest just moving the piggies into another room if they are bothered by them until they die off, kerp your wondows closed, maybe spray the outside of your windows with a pet safe cypermethrin or neonicotinoid garden pest insecticide spray?

Thank you!

Thank you for the advice, fortunately they seem OK and managed to get rid of most of these pesky flies. It was fly strike I was not sure of but glad they're harmless! 😊
