I am new here. We adopted two adorable girls (Willow and Shadow) from a friend of mine who did not have the time for them with her daughter in dance now. So here we are and i am so in love and never thought that would be possible as I have never been a furry caged fan....reptiles yes but never thought we would have them hahah! I have discovered we have Two vets that take guinea pigs here! Woohoo! I have transitioned from bedding to hospital bed pads (washable with puppy pads underneath), and two "litter pans" with bedding in them which sometimes they use but mostly they sleep...but I love this set up much better and will probably sew some fleece bedding for them once I get finished and decide their more permanent housing.

Anyway, The cage they are in is a nice size, and what they are used to....but I would like to first attach two together for the time being.....but once summer starts (teachers here lol) I want to convert our huge dog crate (its big....two full sized goldens stayed in there) I think its about 4 ft long by 30 inches wide and high. I just have no clue how to start.

1. I thought about the plastic on the bottom and up a little ways for the walls.

2. I do have screen and see through plastic I could use also and since it has a tray under it would certainly be cost effective to somehow make that work.

3. I'm just stumped on the idea right now (I obsessively like to plan these things out)

This would make them a nice space and I could build some platforms for them and all that.

Too much? Crazy?20190423_182555.webp20190406_160542.webp20190406_160550.webp20190406_160751.webp20190419_203212.webpThe white cage is their travel and or place when we are cleaning out their normal cage

The play pen looks to be a good size, as long as it’s at least the measurements you gave.

You could use correx for the base, which can be made with sides. Coroplast is a cheaper (and thinner) alternative. You could build platforms using c&c grids.

PS they’re beautiful. I also have a black sow, she’s so slippery’ 😂

The minimum size requirement for 2 guinea pigs is 120x60 cm for sows. If the crate's measurements adhere to that then you can use it.

Cage Size Guide
the current cage is pretty close actually but the new one is about 4 feet by 30 inches so it will work....plus for in the temp I am going to take a second smaller cage and connect them end to end. so that would get us to the proper size for now.
