As some of you may know I just adopted 2 guinea pigs and the cage they came with isnt big enough. I am currently insulating a shed which is going to be a home for them but want something for inside for the time being.

So I have a medium size dog crate that my dog stopped using as of last week that is in fab condition. Anyway I noticed some people have converted them for guineas so think I might do that.

I will attach the cage to there run permanently. That would make there total inclosure 183 x 154cm plus what ever extra space the extra levels will give.

Does that sound like a good idea?

Any tips on how to do this?

I have a large 'new' door that I bought from ikea that i could use for the levels if it would be ok? Its one of those white scratch proof ones. Would that be ok? Here's a link to a similar door. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70129518/#/10129516

Usually you are better of using corex for an inside cage, this is a durable plastic type material thats available in sheets, as wood would absorb all the wee eventually. :) The corex could also be used as a good floor for an cage set up, easy to clean too :) Only thing is you would need some kind of battons to support the upper level.

It sounds like a great idea, I'm sorry i can't offer much advice but i'd love to see how you get on with it (:

Thank you Connie :)

Can I buy that from B&Q? Do you think ordinary timber batons would be ok for underneath support?

Thanks again x

I cant see why timber battons wouldnt do, but you might need a few so it doesnt rock, and ofcourse make them thick enough to support the weight (shouldnt be a problem)

You can indeed by corex at SOME B&Q stores. My local store has it but its a pretty big store. Its called coretheme there and none of the staff had heard of it ¬_¬, it was outside in the builders yard area, looks like the stuff they make news agent signs out of but clear :) Obviously work out how much you need before you go, because it comes in different sized sheets so you can work out the cheapest way for your space :)

Thank you very much. I will get myself to B&Q tomorrow after work :)

ps. i just had my first cuddles with paulie since i brought them home. Pete was still a little shy so i let him be. hopefully I will get pete cuddles tomorrow if he's ready.x

That should have said estate agent ¬_¬ I hate working the late shift. lol

Ohhh! thats wonderfull! :) Hopefully pete will follow suit, (maybe bribary will work ;) )
