You all know for a while i have been concerned that my hutch is too small, you also know that i am too soft to leave them out side.
Ive just been looking at the cavey cages site and i am well impressed I love it and think its great!
We dont have any spare rooms but we do have the dining room ( never used as a dining room lol ) Anyway I'm thinking of putting one in there.
My piggies love floor time and i feel so guilty that their hutch is so small, its hard to spot clean and they kick the bedding all over the floor. The wood holds the smell too and although cleaned out regulaly it can be a bit whiffy.
I know some of you guys have these cages so i was wondering if you could give me some advice, ideas and maybe even some pics;)

Where did you get the stuff from and how much was it etc.

Very excited about this idea and cant wait for your replies!
Cheers Claire

It has been years since I bought grids, but I got mine from Robert May (a shop fitting company, you can order a catalogue through their website - just Google "Robert May" ). They came to about £27 - inluding postage - for a pack of 17 grids (big enough for a 6x2 or 4x4) but they are the best quality I know of.

I buy my correx from MDP Supplies, £33 for five sheets. I buy the 48in x 39in sheets, I use two sheets for a 5x2 cage (but I do have quite high correx walls).

(You can get colours too, there is a link on that page - I have green!)

If you can get the correx in a 4ft x 8ft sheet from a local sign shop, it may work out cheaper. However everybody near me was quoting £60+ for one sheet. I wish I'd told them I got a sheet a few years earlier in another town for only £15!

You get connectors to attach the grids together with the grids themselves, and you can buy extra connectors from the company. I use cable ties instead of connectors, and I buy bulk online as it is *much* cheaper than buying in homeware stores like Homebase or Focus. If you want advice on the size of cable ties, I'll let you know what I use, as you don't want the really tiny ties!

You can use duct tape to tape the correx together if you do use multiple pieces.

Let me know if you wanted to know anything else!

I love the C&C cages, and it's always good to hear about other converts :) It's so easy and flexible to make and you can be really creative. if you check out the Housing board there will be quite a few ideas on there for you, and also www.guineapigcages.com have some really inventive ones.

You used to be able to get them in B&Q and Screwfix stores but I've been trawling their websites and can no longer see them listed on either shop which is a bloomin' shame, so the only other place I know of is Robert May as CCC4's post above says. Correx you shouldn't have a problem getting hold of either, but do ring around as prices vary considerably.

These are ours:

I use Pupps ProFleece http://www.thedoginn.com/ you can get it on eBay as well from a seller called dogtastictamara (I think!) we've bought all our fleece from her and she offers next day shipping. If you contact her she may do a good deal for you. The only problem with fleece like this or vetbed is its quite bulky and a nightmare to get the hay etc out of before you put it in the washing machine! If you do go down the fleece route, I personally wouldn't go for a cheap make as it's not so effective.

There are some reviews of different bedding types in the Housing section of the forum at the top of the page which may help you decide what you want to use :)
