do you have control burning of the wooded areas around you all?
Just asking cause we're doing a lot of it at the moment here in Victoria and we're getting all this smoke.
But tonight after Dee's basketball game we looked up to the hills and to see them alight and know that it's not a dangerous out of control fire, well it was just awesome to look at, it was dark and all you could see was these red and orange embers and flames lighting up the hilllside, quite spectacular. Actually Dee and i discussed that we should've had the camera to take a pic as it would be great for her art course, but also for the fact of how amazing it looked.
Note: our DSE (people who do the control burning) have also stuffed up in the past and done these control burns and then :o :o :o :o oh dear they get totally out of control, so am just crossing paws that all works out, no wind changes etc...

not as far as I know, why do they do it? is it to stop fires breaking out in dry woodland if so then maybe it will start happeing here with our hot weather, the Island has mile and miles of countryside and forests so we are a nightmare waiting to happen with fires,

Yep you got it in one hit O0
Because most of our open areas in the hills are bushy we have lots of grasses and trees these die off regularly so you get this dry debris lying around. We have been in drought for a few years now so lots of trees are dying off and dropping their branches, this then causes a huge problem with the undergrowth.
We've also had a problem that our cattlemen used to drove their cattle thru the ranges, they've been pushed out of there, cause it's "harmful" to the undergrowth by the 'greenies' :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: 98) 98) 98) 98), so now we have all this debris just waiting to burn at any moment >:( >:(

I remember the fires Australia had a few years ago and the poor wildlife suffered badly hope we dont get that sort of problem but my feeling is we will,

Is it here in Australia because we have such a hot climate or whatever? I see the fire warning signs on the sideof the road that tell you what the risk of a fire is for the day... theyre always pretty high hey! :(
