I have a older guinea pig and have recently got him a baby friend (long story he was with his brother till his brother turned on him).

Anyway Franklin (the old piggy) is constantly humping (sorry trying to find an execptable word) the young one Thomas. No blood, no fighting just humping, Thomas does not fight back just tries to run away.

They are apart right now (split cage with C&C) and no chattering, grumbling or anything. Should I just let them ride it out or do you think I should give up trying to bond them?

Oh yeah I totally agree but how long do I let Franklin get away with it for. I mean he would go for hours and hours non stop given half the change and I don't want to stress Thomas too much.

i have the same, but also the baqby one has started to do it, its just their way like helen said and i would put them back together, there is no need to separate them. I would ride it out, them will calm down a little soon.

Thanks both of you

They are going back together now....

aw well keep us updated. Mine are 6 months and 7 weeks, all so far so good, but Max ( the youngest) was humping Scruffy today apparently. Silly piggies!

Boars, eh? rolleyes

Keep an eye on them and if it turns nasty, or you think that Thomas is getting stressed or upset, then you may have to re-think whether they can continue to live together.

But hopefully it will pass and peace will once again prevail! :)

Things seem to be going well, the odd little head nudge or little 3 sec romp now and again but they have settled well and I even have benjamin in with them now.

Everything is excellent, Benjamin has also joined them now :) Its been a bit like musical piggies hear. Poor old Benjamin has been in with both groups but is better suited to being with Franklin and Thomas

Thanks both of you

I want to put a baby piggy boy with my toby (3 yrs) and this humping thing has gotten me a little bit worried lol so it doesn't cause any fighting or anything ?

no they all do it, its a way of saying whose the dominant one etc, its perfectly normal. as long as they dont start fighting badly, they should get on fine. thats like blood being drawn, showing their teeth and teeth chattering really badly

Aaah okay :) Other animals have ways of showing whos dominant guinea pigs have....humping well their lovers not fighters lol

No mine only humped never had a fight, not even a little ear nibble or anything. It does get a bit annoying LOL but once I left them to it (with supervision incase of a fight) they sorted themself out and the humping decreased in 12 hours and had totally stopped in 38 hours
