Hello!
I hope someone can help, I have woken up with what seems to be conjunctivitis! I work in childcare, and have as far as I know not been in any contact with any children with conjunctivitis recently. The Piggies don't seem to have any.
I am presuming I may be able to pass it to them? I have bathed my own eyes, but cant quite see how this would work on guinea pigs. We had cuddles last night. Should we take extra precautions, or just usual handwashing before and after? Could the piggies have conjunctivitis without us being aware if it?!

I would advise not bathing their eyes without reason, eyes are delicate and you could pass something on
I will tag our experts in @Wiebke @PigglePuggle @Freela @Piggies&buns @Siikibam @furryfriends (TEAS) @pig in the city as I am unsure if if you can pass it in
But would advise interacting with the piggies for as little as possible until you have all cleared up

If pigs get infected eyes they get eye drops just like us

Thank you, expect for practicing good hygiene, I just wondered if I could prevent possible transmission any other way.

I would take a trip to the pharmacy and get your eyes checked out. It's unlikely to affect the piggies and you are unlikely to have caught it from them.
As long as you wash your hands and use your own hand towel/face flannel you will be less likely to spread to others

Thank you for your help.
I was just concerned I might pass it to them.

There are very few issues that can pass between humans and guinea pigs, but hand washing before and after you handle any pet is the best prevention for passing on/picking up any issues; especially if one party has got a health issue.

Good handwashing is the best thing you can do, just wash your hands and don't touch your eyes again until after you are done handling your pigs. It's not airborne, so that will help to keep you from spreading it if it's something that can be passed between the species.
