Congested guinea pig

If a blockage in the nose is not sorting itself out with a big sneeze or within a few hours, please contact a vet tomorrow. Guinea pig airways are very narrow and small. Piggies are also not much in the way of mouth breathers so even the smallest obstruction in the nose is quite audible and can sound alarming. Most obstructions of the nasal area are harmless and go away on their own within a relatively short space of time.
You can place a bowl of steaming water next to the cage and see whether that helps. Please do not medicate on spec.
Respiratory infections, which manifest with raspy or crackly breathing are bacterial and require antibiotics. Guinea pigs do not have viral colds or flu. If your piggy has heaving sides when breathing, clicking sounds from the chest and is losing their appetite/is becoming apathetic (signs of pneumonia or a serious infection), please contact a vet as an emergency.
