Last week we took our 3 year old Guinea pig to the vet after noticing a concerning grey hairless patch around the eye. The vets took a ringworm culture ( negative) and said it was an injury to the eye. We have been giving him the prescribed antibiotic drops. Today we noticed that the patch has slightly expanded and turned pink. Does anyone know if this is just scabbing or does this warrant another vet visit.

If you are concerned then return to the vet.
I’ve not seen an injury to the eye result in this kind of symptoms.

Unfortunately our vet is booked/ closed until Tuesday. Do you think I should separate my guinea pigs until I can get him into the vet? Sunny is otherwise well, and has been eating/ acting regularly.

After researching I’m concerned it could be an abscess. Is this a typical place/ situation for an abscess to occur? If he had an abscess along the eye would that require surgery?

:agr:

The vet would need to drain an abscess one way or another, he would also need painkillers and antibiotics.
All you can do is speak to the vet and seek diagnosis
