hi,
Ive been trawling through the threads on here trying to get information as thinking about changing from newspaper and wood shavings with hay to fleece.
I still have a few questions please.
1. is the fleece you buy the plain kind or the more fluffy soft kind like a throw for the sofa?
2. what is a cage liner? is this just an absorbent layer like towels underneath?
3. what detergent do i wash it in to wick it?

Thank you in advance people. xx

If I remember correctly anti pill and polar fleece works well. I just bought some from B&M, Ikea and eBay as well. It doesn’t have to be plain mind.
A cage liner is a fleece sandwich with an absorbent layer in between. Megazorb (though expensive) works very well. Some people put down puppy pads or towels then the fleece on top instead of using liners.
I think you’re supposed to use non-bio. You have to wash several times to get rid of that layer that stops fleece wicking.

Hope that helps.

Never wash it with softener either.

Great advice from @Siikibam

I use fleece liners in both cages for Finn and Lara.
My fleece is sewn together with towel. I also have pee-pads that are put on high traffic area.

On the very bottom of the cage, I put puppy pee-pad. Then I place fleece liner on top. On top of fleece bed, I put pee-pads.

I throw away the puppy pee-pad. I wash the fleece lining and pee-pads with detergent and water several times to get rid of the pee. Then I soak them in the vinegar water for several hours. I squeeze the vinegar water out of the fleece, then lay it out to dry.
