What's the general opinion on CC vets?

I need to take Rodney tonight as his breathing is a bit wheezy but I just don't like my vets for small animals, I always get the feeling they are great with bigger animals but can't really be bothered with small ones.

ARe companion care regarded as any better? They must see small animals constantly? I've used them before & didn't mind them, just wondering what the opinion is?

i Now go to Vets4Pets, but used to go to them was closer, and they were very good with all my pets and could not fault them at all

I can't advise on the vets as I have always been very happy with the vets i use, but wanted to say that i hope Rodders is ok, will be thinking of you both.

xx

I can't help either as I use a private veterinary hospital but hope he feels better soon. Have you looked at the recommended vets list and see if there is anyone recommending a good vet near you?

The CC near me has always been the best in the area, the vets seem to have a knowledge of guinea pigs and other exotics where as some don't. (Took my very sickly budgie Edmund to a vets and the vet turned out to be terrified of birds - great!) They also seem to be slightly cheaper then other vets too, but again I think that depends which area you're in

Thanks guys, Rodney is absolutely fine but I'm
Not happy with the noises coming from his chest & would rather get him some anti b's if he needs them whilst he is still good in all other respects...

I decided on CC, so we are going at 3pm. I can't forgive my vet for telling me to put him down twice, he's 3 next month & happy as can be so their advice was rubbish! With my dog they are great, but with small animals I just get twitchy. CC also has a car park whereas my usual vet only has 2 spaces so it seems the better option really...

Will let you know how we get on xx

I use Companion Care for my piggies and the service has always been excellent and I find the prices fair. Sandra at the one here did a fantastic job on Kasper's abscess operation and I'm very happy.

Why would a vet suggest putting an otherwise healthy animal to sleep? Kasper just got antibiotics yesterday for a noisy chest x

First time, he had head tilt, which she said was likely a tumour & it'd be kinder to put him to sleep. I asked for anti biotics first as he had been perfect just that morning & i was suspicious it was an ear infection or something. I got him home & he ran off like nothing was wrong!
Second time he had an abscess few months back & she said they would basically slice half his face off (that's how it sounded!) or maybe just put him to sleep as its probably best - I took him to a vets 65 miles away who are very gpig friendly, abscess sorted - and it's never returned.

They just seem to act like smaller animals aren't worth it in my opinion..

That's awful! I don't know about the CC at where you stay but my vet at CC sees guinea pigs everyday and has 20+ years experience of small animals!

Yeah I took Rodney's brother there a couple of years ago & liked them, I just feel they probably deal with more small animals... It should hopefully be straight forward this time as he is perfectly happy aside from the noisey chest (he is more upset that i ran out of green beans this morning) so should be ok. Just thought I would check because I know PAH don't have the best reputation! Hope your little one feels better soon xx

I like to think that because some of the PAH have the vets there now that the animals are better cared for x

Well apart from the vet being amazed I have 2 male uncastrated guinea pigs living happily together it was fine. He had his teeth & temperature checked, and his heart & lungs sound perfect apparently. Of course there was no sound to be heard! But he has some anti biotic to treat for URI to be safe.

He said 'oh is he always so bloated?' I said ermmmm he's not bloated he's just a bit fat! Haha.

Here he is in the waiting room clearly traumatised with fear after stuffing 2 green beans into his face which were actually meant to be his reward for AFTER he'd seen the vet!

And here he is enjoying his present for being a brave boy with Billy.... ;)

Hi Pamelakt,

They are lovely as ever.

Did you go to the Pets at Home vets in the end? If so, how much was the consultation fee if you don't mind me asking.

I pay £26 at the moment just wondering if it was cheaper.

S x

He looks shocked to the core by his experience ;) What will you have to do to make it up to him lol.

Glad everything is ok though!

He's hilarious, no ones ever seen anything like it when I take him anywhere. It's like he thinks he's off on his holidays! Totally un-phased by everything.... Vets usually think he's really off colour til I explain he genuinely is that relaxed ALL THE TIME! ;)

Hi, yes I did go to the vet at PAH it was £32 for the consultation! Xx

Did that include meds? I pay £15 for a consultation at my vets.

My Rupert is laid back in fact the vet sits him on the table and he just sits there :))

I had a really bad experience with C C from Pets at Home in Woking. I took my Yorkie there as she had diahrea and they said she had to stay for medication and fluids. An hour later they called me saying that my yorkie died and it had NOTHING to do with the medication they gave her. £200 bill and no further explanations about it. Never again.
If you compare prices as well you will realise that they are more expensive than the good vets in your area.

I prefer my normal vet for my dog... I just don't like them as much with small animals.

It was £42 together with meds, consultation was £32.

Rodney just sits on the table as well, he's not bothered by anything. The only thing that bothers him is the sound of keys! That really annoys him.... Haha. That and running out of green beans or cucumber!

Ps. Chest has been silent since I booked the appointment.

!

Think he just fancied an outing?

It was £25 for me to get both pigs checked out with a batch of antibiotics. Do they have different prices in different places?! :S

My vets first consultation its £15 and after that its £10, covers you for as many piggies as you take.

Ours charge £16 for the initial consult and then 12.50 for further checkups . On one occasion all four went to the vets, I think at the time Esme was the only one without problems and were still charged 16 pound.

I think different areas do charge different prices.....

My dilemma is, I have not heard a sound from his chest since I booked the appointment & now I don't know whether to give him the meds or not!? I thought I'd leave it today to see how he went & there's nothing wrong with him!? mallethead
