I've cleaned out tonight and gone from a blue fleece to a green fleece. It hasn't had any effect on our gps behaviour other than them settling in again. I wonder if they actually notice the colour change; if so, how might it change their behaviour? Do you think that they do actually have colour preferences just like humans?

I do know guinea pigs have relatively poor sight compared to us but I am not sure if/how they see colours. It might be they have no good colour vision at all in which case it probably doesn't matter to them :) I think they are probably more interested in how it smells.... Usually that's the favourite thing to check :D

I have read that guinea pigs do see in color (or at least can see some colors), but can't remember the source to vouch for its' accuracy. We use different colored shavings sometimes and the pigs have never seemed to care, though Sundae was really agitated/spooked when I made a trial to go to fleece bedding instead of shavings. Based on that, I would say that they don't recognize a color change worthy of much notice, but do notice bigger things like texture/scent, etc.
