My room is in the basement, and I need my room to be cold to be able to sleep comfortabely, but i'm worried that my perferring my room being cold, may harm my piggies. Any ideas of how I can keep my room cold, but still have my pigs be warm? They have to stay in my room, so I can't move them somewhere else. If worst comes to worst I'll obviously turn the heat on and close my windows, but I was thinking maybe if I put a towel in a pigoo they can cuddle up in it if they get chilly, but I'm not sure it will work. Give me your feedback (:

If it's cool but not draughty, then they'll probably be ok (as long as it's not freezing!) Draughts should really be avoided though.

How about putting a thick fleece/blanket over their cage at night (leaving a bit of room for air circulation). I've even seen people make curtains for their cages, out of fleece. Do they have thick fleece cosies/cuddle cups? Perhaps you could put some fluffy Vetbed in their sleeping area? What about getting a snugglesafe heat pad?

I don't know how cold it is/gets where you are but at this time of year lots of people start chatting about ways to keep their piggies warm so you'll probably see lots of helpful threads on this subject :)

My house is heated by a coal fire and we only start lighting it towards November so it's always cold in here, my pig's always have loads of hay to snuggle into and I put a blanket over one end of their cage where they're sleeping.

If i'm worried about them being cold I pick them up and feel their feet and ears, and then add more bedding to insulate them.

Our piggies are in our lounge and we use vetbed, snugglepads and big fleecy blankets to cover the front of the pens where they sleep when it gets cooler.
This winter, I'm thinking of doing what missy said, fitting a hanging rail over the top of the pen with some fancy curtains that I could tie back during the day. Our set up is just over 6ft high and 12ft wide so will be looking for some nice material soon rolleyes

Well that's what I thought, but I imagined that if you can tolerate the temperature in the room then the pigs probably can too! Obviously you'll probably have lots of blankets etc so as long as they have lots of bedding/insulation too, then I would've thought that it's manageable. As I said before though, make sure that the room isn't draughty...or damp either.

I did read somewhere once, if your piggies are indoors they know no different to us regarding indoor temperatures. I.e- if your're cold your piggies may be getting cold too. However i dont know if this is true and verge on paranoia on the best of days so i would get a big fleece/blanket and drape it over the back/top of the cage just leaving the front/opening bit exposed. This is what i do in winter and when the temperature really drops i cover the cage completely at night time.

I would also invest in some snuggly cosy beds for them :)
