Someone is selling coats for skinny pigs on eBay. Good idea or what, I can't make my mind up. Take a look ebay

I would never put any clothing on piggies, be it furry or skinny.

just think what could happen! they can get stuck on hayracks, sharp corners of houses, they cant scratch and clean themselves properly, and might actually get their claws get stuck on the fabric of the coat! also i imagine they would get soiled easily and then the piggy couldnt even get rid of the dirt..

no, def. a big NO from me. poor things.

Oh my god! thats beyond words! if I did have a pig that needed a 'coat' it wouldn't have a knitted one because if it scratched it would easily get its nails caught in the knit. I don't quite get the skinny thing. Like marmite I'm told (not the taste!) either like them or loath them!

I've made my mind up now, coats like that are definitely not a good idea. Caught nails, hay seeds under the coat and imagine having an itch that you can't scratch, it doesn't bear thinking about. The trouble is, how do you warn people about the dangers because some people will think it's a good idea and buy them for their pigs.

With the skin problems that many of these guinea pigs appear to be prone to, I'd question the wisdom of putting anything like this on them. As far as keeping them warm goes, I think controlling the ambient temperature would be the best idea?
Just my thoughts on this and what I will do :)

As far as warning people of the danger...
If people want to put clothes on their guinea pigs they will... and to try and pursuade them otherwise will probably do you no good at all and you will end up being seen as interfering or worse :-\
It's good to discuss it though, but people do tend to take things personally so be careful.

I also agree with Abnoba about clothing on piggies, and I personally hate to see any animal dressed up for no good reason.

I use old socks on my hairless guineas if they have to have certain skin conditions and need cream on them they shouldnt really be licking off or have scratched themselves so it has chance to heal properly

I agree SkinnyLover.
I do the same with Capy my Skinny, she is subject to wearing a sock when she itches her skin and with no hair she makes scratches on herself.

Oh no, totally agree with the others, wool being a highly no-no.

But, Icey had to wear a 'coat' after an operation for a while to stop her licking and scratching. I used an elasticated bandage with arm holes.

I tried elasticated bandage but I didn't like it, and neither did they. Socks seem to do the job fantastically well ;D

It wasn't a tight one, but Icey was ok in it. It stopped her scratching and biting her wound so was good
