i dont know why or how it happened but i noticed a partial bald spot on the back of my sow can someone shed any light on it382CEE4A-8665-4F1C-853D-FA75BC6C29F9.webp

There can be a few causes ranging from mites to an over enthusiastic companion.
When the same thing happened to Phoebe a couple of months ago I went to the vet and she had a course of Xeno 350 treatment for mites.
Hope your girl is ok

Hi! As it is in the middle of the back, this looks rather like the very start of mange mites to me. Can you get hold of ivermectin in the current conditions in India? A selamectin based product would also do. I know that vet access is rather difficult for you right now.
(PS: Xeno in different strengths according to weight is the UK vet grade ivermectin brand name, which is used for all skin parasites).
New piggy problems: URI - ringworm - skin parasites
Guinea Lynx :: Mange Mites (for internationally available US based brands)

@Wiebke @Merab's Slave omg thank u😵 yes she's been itching often these days not only her but everyone I thought it might be some ectoparasites but I checked their skin and didn't found nothing😵😵 I ll try to find ivermectin but first I ll call the vets first thing tomorrow morning to see if he can do something himself

Only lice but neither variety of mites (mange mites or trixacarus caviae and hay mites or chirodiscoides caviae) are visible to the naked eye. Mange mites burrow their eggs painfully in the increasingly inflamed skin. You need to treat all piggies in contact with the affected one as they can spread.

Please read the information and follow the advice in the link I have given you.

hi @Wiebke and @Merab's Slave
i just got back from the general vet they only allowed me to bring one piggy with me to see so i took her and the vet saw her back and i told him more that she even got a small seizure while itching last night so i gave me 0.2 ml of selamectin for all of my four piggies to apply it on their back will it be fine or does it need to be applied on ears too?

Please never put any parasite treatment on the sensitive ears! Your guinea pigs will spread it themselves when grooming over the next two days it takes to be fully absorbed by the skin and the body; the itching will become a little more noticeable during that time.

You will however have to repeat this twice more, with two weeks interval between every application. Selamectin and ivermectin can only kill any already emerged mites but not the eggs that are still buried in the skin (they are usually kept under control by a fully working immune system). There will be more mites emerging after the first application and you may notice more itching again toward the end of that interval.

The third round of selamectin is there to take care of any stragglers. But as you have seen a promptly, it won't become more than a temporary nuisance. :tu:
