drool As it is getting chillier over night, I have been covering my guineas again.

Has anyone else guineas that as soon as you cover their cage and turn the light out they come to life clucking and walking around.:) to and fro, I think the clucking sound is my favourite behaviour.

I wonder why they do it at that moment. When I had a lone guinea I never had such cute behaviour, are they communicating to each other? X

What you call clucking is a constant status update. Guinea pigs have evolved to live in groups that roam around a territory in the grasslands of the Andes. As they often can't see each other (especially as they walk in line), but they stay in contact by clucking when on the move. It also helps to reassure each other that all is OK where they are. Youngsters are the loudest and most vocal - but they are at the highest risk of predation, as they have the range, but not the experience yet.

My piggies also like to browse after the lights are out; yours will feel extra safe with the fleece over the cage.

Mine do this. Usually when I turn off the light Mooli starts rumblestruting!

You are right Wiebke they seem to love the fleece over the cage. I would love to see what they look like wandering about like it. I stand really close and just listen to them doing it it's so cute. X
