I know it's going to be fine but I'm stressing

This morning my little (not so little) neo has a cloudy eye. He won't sit still long enough to get a photo. But the eye is over all cloudy with a lighter mark near the middle.

I've called my out of hours vet, who said to get him seen today by my regular vet. Turns out my regular vet arnt open today, so I've got to ring another local vet when they open at 9.

My sensible head knows it's just a hay poke. Week or 2 of eye drops and he'll be fine. But it's really stressful 😢

Thanks

Yes it’s always stressful when there is something wrong with them.
I hope you can get him in to the vet today

Thanks. There are multiple vets in my area and I have a car. So I'll keep ringing vets till I find one. Worst case scenario, there's an emergency vet 45 min away from me who do 24/7 walk ins... but they cost an arm and a leg haha

I've hit the point of fed up.

I've spent the last hour ringing round all the vets in my area, and within an hours drive, and none of them can see me, and are telling me to ring my regular vet when they open tomorrow :(

Even the 24/7 vet have said they are overrun today, so I can only see life threatening cases today.

Why do these poor little things always have problems at just the wrong time.

Anyway, I've booked a video call with the out of hours vet to see if they can offer any advice to tide me over.

thanks for letting me vent. I've been sat here crying I'm so stressed.

This time of year seems to be a bit tricky with getting vet appointments. I’m pleased you can do a video call today though. That should put your mind at rest a bit.

They want me to go into the out of hours. They think the eye has ulcerated and needs mediate treatment. (according to the vet)

Apparently its not serious, but the quicker its treated, the better the prognosis for saving his sight\the eye. So I'm off to the out of hours

£114.15 + perscription charges... fun
good job I've got savings lol

Yes eyes are emergencies. Hope you and Neo get on ok.

It is the case that eyes need dealing with promptly. Shame it has to be with an out of hours given the costs but hopefully he will make a speedy recovery

You have done a great job getting him seen.
Although it will cost a lot, it will still be cheaper than leaving it and having it become even worse.
We have had members who have ended up having a piggy eye removed when left untreated for too long.
Deep breath - with treatment it will be fine.

So 3 tiny scratches on the eye which have ulcered.

Metacam for 3 days, twice a day, and an eye gell (forgotten the name already) twice a day for 5 days. Other than that, I need to keep an eye on his eating and pooping and they want me to do a daily with for the week to make sure he's heating OK.

Poor little boy. But at least he's on the mend now

Isathal gell.

So this morning his eye was a cloudy grey. Now it's green and blue from the dye they used to look at the eye...

I have a colourful piggy lol

Good for you persisting in finding a vet.
Your boy is very lucky having such a caring and committed owner.
Hope the eye recovers quickly and so does your vet fund!

Thank you everyone for your kind words :) I feel 1000000% better now.

£240 total bill from the vets. so quite a blow to the vet fund. but its the first real issue i've had in 18 months of owning these boys.
Other than this, we had ringworm which the pet shop covered the cost of, because we'd only had them a week. So overall, still cheaper that pet insurance which would have been over £300 per year (about £10 each per month everywhere I looked, for 3 guinea pigs, adds up fast)

One good thing though, I did find out that theres a "new" vet locally, who have been open about a year, who are guinea pig and exotic experts, so I'll be changing from my regular vet to them.

they would have seen me today, but they had 2 vets off with the flue, so were over booked. But I've registered with them, and they will be my new vet moving forward :)
