I have just come back home after a few days at my dad's house with my mum looking after my three pigs to find that oreo has a cloudy eye. It almost looks as if there is a slight tear of the outer membrane, quite small, not covering the whole eye.As I haven't been home for a couple of days I haven't been able to check them over but before I left they were fine. I have just put them into their outdoor run for a bit and he is munching away at the grass so seems fine in himself but I know that they often don't show signs of illness until it's too late so thought I would just be safe rather than sorry. I have included a picture of his cloudy eye and his other eye for comparison and a picture of him outside.IMG_1131.webpIMG_1132.webpIMG_1136.webp

Please the eye seen by a vet as soon as possible. Eye injuries/ulceration can come on very quickly and develop very quickly; the sooner you can treat, the easier and quicker they are going down again.

I also say take to the vet asap - mine had similar last week and she needed eye drops put in twice a day for almost a week. The vet said it's best to take the day you spot the problem as eyes can quickly deteriorate and become more serious. Hope your little piggy is ok.

Thanks for the help :) I am going to ring the vets to see when they can fit me in. Will update you on it as soon as possible :)

Eye injuries are classed as priority issues, so they can hopefully fit you in!

We just rang them up and they are fitting us in at 5:45PM so not too long for him to wait. He seems quite distressed now so the sooner the better! Luckily, the vets we are taking him to Is one we have used for a long time with our cats and previous piggies so they know us quite well! Again, thanks so much for your help :)

They gave us some fusidic acid to apply twice a day until friday when we are going back for a check-up appointment so they can see how his eye is doing.

Best of luck! The more often you can get it into the eye (up to 3-4 times a day) the better, as that helps clearing the ulcer, so they can then see the infection proper and if necessary treat it with a different medication. Ideally, it all clears off with the fusidic acid (normally, it is prescribed under the brand names fucithalmic or newly isothal).

Ok, thank you! Will give him some more at lunchtime and this evening :)
