I have a c&c cage for my girls and I am wondering if it’s necessary to have my cloroplast foundation be raised on the sides. What are your thoughts on just having it as a foundation or scoring, cutting, taping etc?

It isn’t necessary, but it helps to contain the hay and stops it from going everywhere. It also gives the little monkeys something to chew on  :))

welcome!
about the choroplast it is only your choice. If the hedges are raised it might be easier to clean the cage, but I have a cage with an extension, the two areas have different basis and I find both of them practical:
In the main cage I have choroplast with edges raised (it is easy to make a similar basis, below I add some pictures from the web):

you have to use scissors and a glue for plastic

The extension of my cage has no choroplast as a basis, but only an old blanket (and newspapers+fleece): piggies are comfortable as well and I have no problems in cleaning this side of the cage

it is only your choice... the choroplast with edges make a closed area easy to sweep; without any edges you should lift the grids for cleaning the basis...
(as the bedding I use leaflets from supermarket+fleece in both sides; once a day I shake the fleece and I replace wet spots with new paper)
