I'm going to put an upstairs eating area in my pigs cage. It'll be the full width of the cage and firmly attached to the wall supports. To get there, I'll add a ramp. Where exactly I put the eating area will be determined by the ramp. My question is about how steep I can make the ramp. How good are pigs at getting up and down ramps? Because I use fleeces, the ramp itself won't touch the ground. It'll be a short hop above the fleece.

My ramp is on a 45 degree angle. Also the floor of my hutch is 6" off the floor of the shed and my piggies hop in and out no problem. ;)

Wow 45° mine is about 13° and I thought that was steep enough

Its carpeted, they whizz up and down it no problem. ;)

Guinea pigs are not natural climbers . The shallower your ramp , the better. It would also be better if you have some sides to your ramp and maybe even a ramp tunnel.

My guinea pigs live in a 2 tier hutch so I use a ramp tunnel.

I also use this home made hide ( made out of C&C grids) for floor time 20151025_143159.webpy

These are my ramps. They are made from pine, carpet tile, polycarbonate, net curtain hooks and U nails. All three are set at 13.5°

These are my ramps, made with plastic gutters with sides and carpet tiles velcroed to the bottom so they can easily climb up and down, as you can see my piggies doing below! Not sure of the gradient but it rises about 2ft. Had no issues with piggies falling off and actually it works not having a roof to the ramp, because if one is coming up and one is going down they can jump off at the bottom to get around each other.
