now i know are furries don't really smell but like having dogs in the house, 20ish pigs.. ok nearly 30 8) and all the hay the bedding and the wee etc ,you do get a certain scent around the house, which is ok until you get visitors :(

what can i use on my floors and carpets where they wee alot ;D to keep it fresh smelling but not be harmful to my babies.......i use to love also to burn candles etc but now i won't in case it bothers the babies, so any ideas of what is safe for cleaning but also what candles and smelly sticks could i use....... ;D

We have laminate everywhere and use Dettol and or TCP - depending on if you like the smells! :)

Haven't really noticed a smell - we're all used to it!;)

that's the problem we all do get use to it, it's the visitors that notice ;D so i don't really have any anymore apart from the family. just my lad is at the age now where his mates are just popping in and i don't want them thinking I'm a dirty cow.......

if i go to some ones house that has dogs you can normally tell, i don't mean their dirty but it's like smoking there is a certain smell :)

i get really worried about the pigs but maybe I'm taking it to the extreme..... so the smell of detol and tcp wouldn't harm them?

i have wooden floors where the cages are but then they all run wild on my carpet and 30 pigs make alot of wee. i want to beable to wash it but feel safe that when they are out that if they lick the carpet they will be safe...... and they do lick I've seen them 8)

and they wee all over my glass shelf on tv stand....

now i bet you all have an awful vision of what my house must look like ::)

I changed ours to laminate for the reason that we have the dog too and fleas liked living in carpet

we also use dettol

yes i have laminate too. but they wee on my big rug in the living room so i'd also like to know what would be good to clean it.

as for the smells, i don't think visitors pick up a 'dirty' smell - i think the hay is the strongest smell. people coming to my flat sometimes say it smells like a pet shop... not sure if that is good or bad!

i have a german shep dog as well as piggies....... do u dilute the dettol? when i move there will be no carpets for now i have carpet and thats another thing, fleas, mites in the carpet.....

can mites live in the carpet and if so how can i treat that with out harming the pigs?

must have my cleaning head on today......

i don't want you all getting a bad impression of my house now ;D

yep that's the smell.... like a pet shop :D i suppose my house is like a pet shop.

but on the carpet you do get a wee smell and i want to keep it atbay. i do wash my carpet but then it means the piggies can't rum wild until i feel it safe.

no impressions! ;)

We dilute dettol :)

Had the same problem with fleas in carpet, also cos of my wheel marks! ;) Laminate just makes sense!

well atleast i know I'm not as thick as i thought... ;D you had me confused i couldn't see the connection between fleas, dettol and wheels :D lol

no more house work would do me nicely....... hate it and as for ironing that really brings out my temper >:(

are piggies as sensitive to smells as i think....? ( i think they are major sensitive) :)

I think they are sensitive - but it's not like you'll be using a really, really strong cleaner :)

we always dilute the dettol but it smells sooo fresh after, whatever you use it on

mmmmmmmmmmmm i've been taking it to the extreme then ;) atleast i can relax now. does that mean i can have my scented candles back? see what these piggies have done to me.... they have taken over my life ::) and every bit of cash i use to have.

LOL, yep! We have some on too - not all the time and not too overpowering :)

got a great big draw full and gave loads away >:( that's brill..... think i had a bad stage in the early days when i first got all my piggies, they were sneezing and getting cold and i thought it was due to them being sensitive, so all my smellies got put away and when i did floors i would move them out the room....

crazy woman hey ;D ;D ;D

since I've changed their bedding to aubiose the sneezing is alot less :)

gonna go up and get my smelly candles out now ;) my fella will think I'm being romantic :-* no chance he can dream on

well my son says I'm a chubby woman.... my partner says i look like a bag woman and my customers tell me they are terrified of me..............i think they mean I'm not good at customer care

my son means i eat to much

my partner means i don't make an effort ;D

but my piggies love me or do they ;) buddy did take a chunk out of me last year and they all wee over me.........

i should be cleaning not sitting here playing on this computer :D

LOL awww!

computer definitely! Trying to decide where to take my nephews out this week and cadbury world looking good............:)

I use dettol too the spray one. i just use that and some warm water to dilute it :)

You could steam clean the carpets every so often or shamppo the carpets with a carpet cleaner. I have amtico flooring and have to use a special floor cleaner which is nice smelling but I do have to use a floor dresser product that stinks every few months and that stinks. Will not use it untill spring when I can put the piggies out.

If it's anything like our house you notice the smell when you come in. One of my dogs has a definite odour! People are horrified because I have 3 guineas in the kitchen but I reckon our immune systems are high!

People are obsessed with cleaning nowadays. There's all this pressure to have spotless clutter-free homes, it's the fault of all those telly make-overs I reckon.

I know you have to be careful with stuff like Febreeze, think I read that it was bad/could be fatal for cats etc.

Who mentioned nappies for guineas on here the other day? Got a point!

I just blame the hubby for the weird smell ;)

its easier that way

but yeah i agree,to have this perfect tidy clean house etc is annoying the hell out of me,when you see How Clean is your House,i normally think omg and go on a raging cleaning spree for an hour or two, then straight after its a dump again

people say " its the lived in look" when your house is like that with clothes etc everywhere...i just give up
I'm a cleaner anyway but sometimes think I do that for a job why the hell should i do it when i get home, you dust..then all the static sucks the dust back on again, you hoover and everyone plonks right across it or drags in hay/shavings or whatever onto it all,you wash the pots and the next min someones used a dozen plates, you iron and that seems like you live with one hand in the washing machine the other tattooed to the iron

what id give to have a month free of all that crap :(

Our buns are kept outside but we bring them in for a play each evening and they get the run of the ground floor as they are littler trained- piggie however is restricted to the conservatory due to his widdling habits! have you tried Zoflora? It doesn't smell too bleachy and is safe for pets (or so it says) - I use it to mop the conservatory after Tiger has weed everywhere and left bits of tomato all over the place - none of them have shown any ill effects... there was me dreaming of a beautiful minimalistic house in creams and whites! Lol! Theres straw and bits everywhere! I want a cleaner!

Re Fabreeze, I think its a dreadful thing - what must the build up be on the fabric? My brother has bad asthma, he doesn't live wioth us but old habits die hard, no sprays in our house.. Don't understand these odour-eating sprays, why not open a window?!
