hi everyone, question today is piggie related but thought it best to post in this thread! just wondering what type of cleaning products everyone uses in the room you keep your monkeys in? floor cleaner, surface cleaner etc - i’ve just bought loads of stuff but its natural cleaner that contains essential oils😢

is it safe to use white vinegar in the same room
or is this a no no too?

example of my floor cleaner ingredients incase others use similar and know its safe to use!

I wouldn't use anything with essential oils. I wipe surfaces down with a damp cloth often with a bit of F10 in it. Diluted vinegar is safe to use. If I use anything like furniture polish I spray it onto the cloth in a different room. We have a hard floor so that gets wiped with F10.

oh what f10 as in the vet disinfectant? i didn’t think of using that!

Yes the vet disinfectant, only for hard surfaces that can be damp dusted. The smell of it reminds me of the Drs surgery we went to when I was a child. It always says clean to me!
amazing! so how do you dilute it can i ask?

The recommended mix on the bottle is 4mls F10 to 1 litre of water if you buy the concentrate. I mix 1ml F10 to 250ml water as once mixed it doesn't keep so long and 250 mls last some time even with 5 cages to clean. I keep a 1 ml syringe to measure the F10 as it's too small an amount for a measuring jug. You can buy F10 ready to use but that's more expensive. I bought ready to use the first time so I had the bottle.

so do you put the solution in a bucket and mop? or just spray? thanks for the info!

I spray in the cages if the piggy's are elsewhere, if not I wet a cloth with the mixture and wipe. All hard surfaces in the room are damp dusted with a cloth (skirting boards, hearth, window ledge, shelves). I mix up a litre in a bucket and wash the floors with a damp cloth I find a mop makes the floor too wet in the piggy room as that floor is wood. I sometimes spray if it's a patch away from the cages and not the whole floor which saves making up more solution (I've always got some in the spray bottle). It really depends if spraying is going to drift over a guinea pig or not. It's hard to have all 6 piggies away from the room at the same time in winter, they go in the garden in the summer in their runs so it's not such a problem to do a deep clean. F10 is safe around animals but I'd rather not let it go on them if I can help it just in case.
