My boys are currently outside in a hutch, but in September/October they will be back in the utility room for the winter. Last year I experimented with vetbed but I HATED it and soon went back to woodshavings. The hay stuck to it and was impossible to get off, ending up with damage to my washing machine, and I found the smell got bad much quicker than with woodshavings.

So this year I was wondering about fleece. Is it any easier to clean than vetbed? How do you get the hay and poop off it? And does it smell? Do you put anything underneath (newspaper?)?

The woodshavings aggravate my allergies but as the cage is close to my kitchen and food preparation area, I can't have them stinking.

Hi there, i've never used vetbed, so I couldnt say anything good or bad about it. I've really only ever used fleece (except for the first week). I use newspapers under it, it soaks up the wee very well. When cleaning, i use a small broom/pan to sweep up the hay and poo's....works very well. Then when cleaning completely, i take out the blanket and shake it outside...everything seems to come off very well....I sometimes have to pick hay off before washing....but it is the best thing i've used...I'll never use any other bedding. so I give it 2 thumbs up!

I too use fleece if i have the piggies indoors & use old towels underneath. I brush off as much as i can whilst in the cage (dustpan & brush) & brush anything left on outside. I personally think it's much easier to get hay etc off it than vetbed.

Fleece is easy, because i do regular spot cleans mine dont get to bad so when its timp i fold them up so no poo can fall onto the carpet,i take it outide and shake it alot so all hay and poos come off and then i chuck it in the machine, its very easy xxxxxx

Ditto the above. It does clean off easier than vetbed.

I wash and clean every 2 days as i do notice a smell but would never go back to woodshavings as they aren't brilliant for piggies health and they make such a mess!

Fleece is easy to sweep out after a day which helps keep the smell down.
