One of my boys has funk up his bum and a dirty grease gland. I’m sure it’s there but are there instructions for cleaning the bum hole? A video would be good as well...

And if I use coconut oil on the grease gland, do I have to wash it off with shampoo or just water?

TIA

@Siikibam I just use a wet piece of cotton wool on their butt. And I just use water when washing off coconut oil, but you can use shampoo if it's really stubborn.

Hi! You may find our boar care guide helpful.
After cleaning the grease gland with coconut oil, you can give the area a little wipe with a damp rag, or give your boy a bath if his coat has become very greasy. Otherwise you can mostly get away with a gentle bum bath with water.

Thank you for the replies. I got some coconut oil and cotton buds for bum cleaning. I’ll read the links again when not so tired. Wish me luck!

Just an additional point - careful using cotton buds - they really only need a gentle wipe and cotton buds can be too much if used to 'thoroughly clean' the anal sack or elsewhere.

Thanks for the pointer @Posyrose i have some flat cotton wool, that would work wouldn’t it?

They should work and you can also use a soft tissue.

Even mucky boars don't really need that much cleaning- all the white gunk is meant to be there - but it is amazing what can get caught in the anal sack after dragging their bottoms on the floor!

It’s mainly hay caught in their anal sacks. I’ll give them a clean this weekend, if I have time and I’m not too tired.
