Hi guys

iv just had a proper clean out and i must say what a nightmare, its caused a riot in my house!

i had to lug all the correx outside and clean it theres poo everywere, then the pigs were in the living room and kept goin behind the tele were theres wires. becasue the cage is so big in such a cramped space its a nightmare.

How do other people clean their cages? any tips? i know its not rocket science but WOOOOOOW i do not wanna be doin that everyweek when it comes to a spring clean.:(

Can you not just roll everything up in the cage rather than taking the correx out? I've never needed to take the correx out, just roll and remove everything, hoover it out with the hoover hose, then spray down with a disinfectant and wipe over with kitchen roll, then refill the cage. I hate to say it but I think you made a hard job for yourself there. :)

lol, are you using fleece?
I never take the correx out either, i just take out the fleece and shake it onto the towels, then take out the towels and shake it onto the newspaper, then roll it all up and bin it, then sweep it out with a dustpan and brush, spray it with anti bac, wipe it over with toilet roll and put it all back in again, takes no more than 20 mins. It gets quicker with practice, you just gotta find a routine :) xx

:)) I think your pigs got one over on you there.

I've developed a routine and can do the change over in less than 10 minutes.

Have your clean bedding ready. Bowl of hot water and cloth. Empty out any hideys and bowls, etc so just pigs left in the run.
I put the pigs on a fleece in my laudry basket whilst I change the bedding.
I scoop up all the loose hay and poops into a rubbish bag- I just use my hands as it's less fiddly and quicker than a dustpan and brush. Fold the fleece in on itself to contain any mess and put it to one side, same with the towels.
Quick spray with the anti-bac then wash off with hot water. (I have to get in the cage and do it in 2 halves). Dry with an old tea towel.
Put fresh towels and fleece in, then release the pigs!

I can then take the fleece out and give it a good shake. Fold it up then bring it inside to brush off. I sit on the kitchen floor and use a stiff clothes brush and lint brush to clean the fleece- just keep refolding until it's all done. Easy to hoover and wipe over the lino afterwards. Takes another 10 minutes. Then washing.

Hope it goes better next time. :(|)

I rolly up the fleece from the sides to the middle, remove the towels and the soiled newspaper and clean the correx while still in the cage.

My piggies have the run of the (piggy proofed) living room, but they are also used to go the other floor when I'm cleaning.

A biggish cardboard box with a bath towel at the bottom will do in a pinch. Many people make use of the carrier they take their piggies to the vet.

o my word i did make a job of it didnt i hahahha. right ill leave the correx in next time.

*** a night mare hahaha i dragged the correx into the garden and was sat on the floor in the garden cleaning it what a joke hahaha. i might take the ramp down thats doin me head in as well hahahahha. x

i cant believe iv just put myself through that hahaha.

iv sat down and thought about it now i wont do it again hahaha. we are guna clear out the room they are in to so we have got more space. phew that was a nightmare hahaha xx

Cleaning my old C&C out did my head in too, took me ages. I now have 2x Rabbit 150 cages, and I'm only just getting the hang of it, but each time I'm getting a little quicker. I've realised, today, that it helps having everything ready before trying to catch the piggies. So today, I had the clean fleece clipped to the clean inco pads all ready to go. Once I did this, I got the piggies out of the cage, lifted the dirty fleece clipped to inco pads up so that the majority of poops fell into the base of the cage, did the same with the fleece/inco pad in the upper level, ran outside and brushed them down (takes hardly any time as most of it had already fallen off), sweeped out the muck from the base of the cage, disinfected and cleaned down. Threw the fresh bedding straight in, filled hay/water/food, piggies back in! The all over again with the second cage. My C&C was on the floor and big enough that it could take me half an hour to catch them all. And if they ran under the upper floor (that I never finished building!) I had no hope!

I think its all down to routine, you'll get the hang of whatevers easiest for you. Though saying that, it still takes me an hour to do the two cages. I do hate (any type of) cleaning though, so I dither about a lot because I don't want to do it!

I don't know if you use sawdust, but I generally just take the dustpan and brush, sweep everything out, take out the newspaper (possibly re-use any that hasn't been peed on) which I find soaks up so amazingly that I don't have to wash it out all the time.
