Hiya.

I clipped my pigs claws last night and went too short with one. Lots of blood, I used flour and eventually it stopped.
Since we got up this morning she's been hiding and not eating, extremely out of character for her. I was quite sure the bleeding had stopped so I'm just wondering if I should leave her alone or disturb her and make sure her foot is ok I'm thinking she could just be a bit miffed with me, although she never turns down carrot!

Thanks in advance!

It may be she’s miffed. But do get her out and check her nail. It should be okay now hopefully.

She's not a happy pig! I feel so reluctant to pick her up! There's no blood on the mat underneath her so I'm quite certain it's not bleeding. Just super worried I've cut it way too short and really damaged her claw 😞🤦‍♀️

We’ve all done it and accidentally caught the quick.
If she hasn’t perked up, then I would get her out and check it.
She needs to be eating hay, so ensure there is some with her at all times, put some in her hide if she doesn’t want to come out. If she isn’t eating hay, then that isn’t something you want to allow to go on for too long.
It might be worth having a vet check her toe if she doesn’t perk up.

Don’t panic.
I did the same with my Phoebe last time I did nails.
She’s a terrible wriggler.
You did the right thing to stop the bleeding but it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the paw just to make sure it’s ok and she’s just sulking.
If you’re worried then a vet check won’t hurt.

Just got her out to check, she was happily munching apple throughout.

I've clearly gone way too short, feeling very guilty. Not the best picture but opinions on weather this needs a vet check or not? I'm thinking no but I'm not sure! Thanks everyone x

Thanks for all your replies. She's still a very unhappy little lady so we're seeing the vet this afternoon.

My piggie got his foot stuck when I was getting him out of a carrier once and pulled his claw. Still feel like a horrible human for this... It was at the vets, so they stopped the bleed and gave him metacam for a week. It grew back nicely. All the best!

Hi all.

So, to try and cut a long story short, we still have no idea what was wrong. She's had an ultrasound on her tummy which was all clear. The vet thought she could see spurs on her teeth so she was put under to have them sorted however when the vet got in there her teeth were completely fine!

She has antibiotics, pain killers and some liquid feed and she's seeming so much brighter now which is great.

Just wondering if anyone knows much about the liquid recovery feed. Emily is eating really well after her procedure, however the vet gave us three days worth of the liquid feed for her. Do I still need to give the feed to her even though she's eating normally? I have been doing, and she's loving life 🤣.

Thanks in advance!

If she is eating enough hay independently now to maintain her weight, then you can stop the syringe feed. Continue to weigh her daily for a while to ensure she really is eating properly (you cannot judge their intake by eye), and be prepared to step back in with the syringe feeding if she has any weight drops beyond normal fluctuations

Fab, thank you.
