Hello and thanks for reading,

Rosie, my piggy, was diagnosed with some tummy issues. She was put on “Meloxidyl” 0,32ml once a day and “Cisaral drops” 0,48ml twice a day. I’ve never heard of the latter so I’m unsure what to think, does anyone have experience? She has gotten 2 syringes of the pain killer and 3 of the tummy drops.

My other worry is that she seems to be sniffing loudly, but only sometimes. There has been some sneezing too. But the vet took a good listen and said she couldn’t heard anything worrisome in her lungs or throat. What should I make out of it?

She has been sleeping more and does try to isolate herself a bit when she does. But instead of being hunched up, she sleeps on her side, what I would normally consider a relaxing position. Is that normal with tummy issues? She is lying down a lot. She is definitely not pooping enough.

Otherwise she is eating very well, drinking, playing and popcorning too. But I can tell her body is a bit “stiff”.

Please note that the vet I visited was not an exotic vet. In my country it’s very difficult to get to one quickly, unfortunately. I have an appointment on the 25th for a checkup, which I booked a week ago.

Should I return to the vets? Or should I wait till I’m finished with the meds (she’s on them for 4 days). The breathing concerns me. It isn’t happening all the time and when I took her up to my ear, it sounded like it was coming from her nose only.

I’m not sure how to act.. I just lost a boy and am

I think if you are unclear about the treatment or unhappy with how things are going, I would definitely get an earlier appointment with the vet. I have never heard of those drops but on reading on the internet , they do seem to be a gut stimulant. Did the vet think the problem was of bloat/gut stasis?

while you are waiting to see anither vet, please step in with daily weighing and syringe feeding. A poorly piggy will not be eating sufficient hay. If there’s a suspicion of bloat please stop all fresh veggies and feed hay and pellets only, syringe feeding mashed pellets if you need to increase intake.

I am linking in various guides to help you while waiting to see a more experienced vet

Thanks for replying!

The vet stated on the written document that there’s more gas and food mass in her gut than normal. I’m sorry but language barrier is getting in the way here a bit, the vet didn’t officially diagnose her but said they suspect her gut isn’t functioning properly. There’s a medical term for it in my language but I just can’t come up with the translation of it:hmm:

I got very lucky and managed to get another appointment with a different vet on Saturday morning. She is not an exotic vet either (soon there will only be one in my city), but she often works with guinea pigs.

I gave her some Recovery Plus, which she happily took. She’s in good spirits now, hope everything will be alright. Thank you!
