My vet prescribed Cisapride for my guinea pig Sandy today. Unfortunately, they neglected to tell me whether or not the oral suspension needs to be refrigerated. I will call the vet in the morning when they're open again so I can ask, but thought I would make a post in the meantime just in the off chance that someone on the forum can help. Also got prescribed Meloxicam, but I think that can be stored at room temp? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Meloxicam doesn’t need to be in the fridge. I don’t know about cisapride. Does it say anything on the bottle?

My boy was discharged with both cisapride and loxicom etc etc! The vets never said to store any of the meds in the fridge. Hope this helps.

My piggie recently had this and it we didn't store it in the fridge ...

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, nothing on the bottle. The meds were dispensed in pre-measured plastic tubes. I'm guessing that they did it this way so that they didn't have to charge me for unnecessary doses. The label on the envelope it came in doesn't say anything about needing refrigeration so hopefully it's fine. Will call vet this morning to ask just in case. Thanks again!

If there is no special mention of storage, it can be kept in a dry location at normal room temperature (ideally below 25 C). This how I keep my own meds.

The only piggy medication I ever got that needed to be kept in the fridge were chloramphenicol eye drops for a bad eye injury but I was specifically advised by the treating vet that I needed to do that.

We don’t store this in the fridge where I work. It’s just in the cupboard with the other oral meds xx
